Mercians are a rock band hailing from Cannock, UK. The sound is influenced by a wide-range of artists including Reuben, Oceansize, Young Guns, and have been compared to Don Broco and Lower Than Atlantis

Starting up in 2012, Mercians played their debut gig in January 2013 at the Woody’s & Kerrang! Battle of the Musicians, winning the heat and earning a radio interview on Kerrang! with Johnny Doom. Since then, the band has progressed very quickly with the pre-release in April of their debut EP ‘We Don’t Even Live By The Sea’ (officially released in May).

The Band

Back in June 2012, Dan, Matt, Ritchie, Rob and Ste got together for the first time at their local practice rooms, gelled instantly and finished three tracks before it was time to close up for the evening.

Guitarist Dan had just finished up with a band which has received reasonable success across the UK, and teamed up with Matt (vocals), Rob (guitar) and Ritch (bass guitar), who had just wrapped up their previous band. Dan’s cousin Steve came in on drums, having previously played with bands which achieved air play on national radio stations.

After a few months break for travelling and personal reasons, Mercians got back together in October 2012 and resumed writing. The debut gig was in January 2013 at the Woody’s & Kerrang Battle of The Musicians, where Mercians won the heat and went to the final. On the back of that, Mercians were interviewed on Kerrang! Radio with Johnny Doom, with their Colder track aired.

Mercians’ sound has been described as melodic rock, and compared to the likes of Young Guns and Don Broco.

‘We Don’t Even Live By The Sea’

The debut EP from Mercians, We Don’t Even Live By The Sea is a three-track release that is now available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
